Things...

A big 'Hi!' to Maree, a Kiwi teacher working in Jakarta using some Maori Printables to give her students a taste of NZ. Great stuff.

She's found a couple of glitches and kindly contacted me to give me the heads up. She's been unable to download stuff, so I've gone through and removed all passwords to the downloads.

Also she said she's been unable to comment on the posts. Well, I've adjusted a setting, hope that'll work - if not I'll have to think about changing the template. A bit annoying that, because I really like the template...and there I was thinking that you all were such a quiet lot.

I've also been tweaking code and honing down the categories to make it easier to search the blog, now that there are a reasonable number of posts on here...and played about with a Maori Printables favicon.

Don't forget, anything special you want to see, let me know.

One Page Notebook - Blue

One Page Notebook - Blue. This wee notebook is made from one piece of A4 paper.

There's a space on the cover for a title or name and each page is lined and has an image of a tiny Maori Doodle Kid. This download is for the blue book.

You'll need instructions on cutting and folding a one page notebook.

About Dingbats

Dingbats are fonts that made with images, so in your Word Processing  program you can 'type' pictures. They can be resized by increasing font size. Very handy.

Lots of fonts are free, each font has its own type of licence for use - Personal, Commercial, Shareware or Donationware. There are variations of quality, but hey - we like 'Free'.

If you can drive graphics programs you can get in and manipulate them, arrange them into new designs, and build them up to make bigger or more detailed pictures or scenes.

Want to get to know How to Install Fonts to Your Machine? Follow the link.

Maori Numbers Colouring Pages

Coming up soon are some Maori Numbers Colouring Pages - from one to ten. A4 size.

The numerals are followed by dotted text in English and Maori, for letter writing practice and Maori vocabulary learning.

They can be put together as a mural for the wall. Bright colours will add an element of fun.

These were made with free fonts. The numbers are dingbats called 'Birthday Digits' by Manfred Klein and are okay to use if you don't make any money from them. The dotted font is by Honey & Death and is okay for commercial use. There are a choice of four dotted fonts. The one used in these pages is 'Dotted Light'.

Find out About Dingbats here.

Calendar 2012

Am working on a calendar for 2012. Would look good printed on kraft card or manila folder. Punch a hole in the top and thread string to hang, or add a tassel for a bookmark.

Would look nice on a pale yellow card as well, for an earthy feel. Very simple design, place to write important stuff, a pattern running down the center and a small motif on top.

The downloads will be on plain white, so you can choose which colour to print on. White looks cool too, crisp and clean.

These will only be available to the 'Maori Printables' Newsletter subscribers, so if you want them, go sign up!

Update from the recent Diary Giveaway post.

These have been going well. Still some left. Flick me an email if you're wanting some. Will cost you a self-addressed envelope.

Photo Frames

Photo Frames - two to a download page. Fits four inch by six inch photos. Attatch the photos to the back of the frames. Add a cardboard backing if you like. Put on the fridge with the help of magnets.

Darcy (Moko, three years, nine months) has been playing about with the camera over the last couple of months, and has now realised we can see more in his photos when his finger is off the lens. Got about a hundred photos of his finger.

Diary Giveaway

Got these diaries/monthly pocket planners to dish out. They are for 2011. Great for purse/desk.

The year nearly out, but Maori Time, you know. (Nah, I just got 'em). Scrap paper, set your meetings out in them. I'm using one for blog post schedules etc.

If you want one, flick me an email, and you'll get an address to send a stamped, self addressed envelope to. Got a heap of them. First in, first served. If you're not fast, you're last!

Drawing Simple Kowhaiwhai

Drawing Simple Kowhaiwhai

Just using a curved line and a circle to represent koru is a good way to start out making your own kowhaiwhai designs.

Start out by drawing a couple of lines as a boundary to keep your design in line. Add notches and filler lines to give the design interest and the 'Maori' feel.

Choose a design to play around with. Repeat your design, flip it, rotate it (yay! for graphic programs)...

... and end up with something like this:

Have a go! Would like to see anything you try or would like to share with the Maori Printable blog readers.

Birthday Card Toppers

Birthday Card Toppers to use in your projects. Printed on card they'd do as gift tags.

Three colourways. Each colourway in English and Maori.

The font used for Maori text is a nice handwritten, informal, sketchy-type free font called 'Angelina'. Can get it from here.

:)

Using Birthday Card Toppers

Using Birthday Card Toppers

Q. What Are Card Toppers anyway?
A. Something to decorate the font of a card with basically.Usually a main image or message.

You have your basic card stock or base, try different backing papers. Use what you have at hand. Try ripping backing papers instead of cutting them - adds a rustic feel.

Embellishments - anything goes here - images, charms, buttons, ribbon, string. Have them or not.

An example of a finished card. You can treat any image as a topper. Just let your imagination run riot.

Maori Background for Blogger Blogs #4

A reminder folks! Please don't share links for my downloads (pretty please!) Direct your mates to the 'Maori Printables' (http://maoriprintables.blogspot.com/) or specific posts. Readership/visits is what keeps me going.

You're a pretty quiet lot - unusual for Maori (lol). Let me know what you're after and I'll see what I can do. I'd love to hear from you.

Cool, clean and green, this one!

Maori Mini Notebook Cover - Tiki Face

Maori Mini Notebook Cover - Tiki Face. These turned out better than I expected. Using kitchen packaging (card from soup packet) made these sturdy. Very cool for wee notes or (calligraphic) inspirational sayings or small drawings. A visiting five year old girl fell in love with these - so this would probably be a great gift for that age group.

A big shout out to subscribers to this blog! I didn't know how it would go when I started it - in February of this year I decided to 'thump it' so to speak, to see if this kind of thing was wanted. Thanks to you guys, it's still here. About 2,500 downloads so far! So thanks again! You guys rock!

Download the file.
Instructions are here.

This download is for the notebook on the right. Kowhaiwhai sides and tiki face in the middle, with a label space.
